Disney comic book team launches Kickstarter for new graphic novel, Frostlings

Pat and Shelly Block, who have been writing and drawing the Disney Ducks (Donald, Scrooge, etc.) for more than 25 years, have launched a Kickstarter for their latest project, a graphic novel based on their creation, the Frostlings.

The little Frostlings are living on two islands across a mostly frozen planet where they have to constantly compete for orbs that come from the single - and central - volcano.

The style is very reminiscent of comics form the 1920s and '30s including steampunk-ish creations. All 200 (or more pages) in the book are being hand painted by Patrick.

The Frostlings Kickstarter has a goal of $20,000 to print the books in soft- and hard-cover formats, includes a personal endorsement from game designer Warren Spector ("Epic Mickey"). Some of the other incentives to contribute to their Kickstarter include metal hero cards, T-shirts, maps and a bookmark.

All the books will be signed by Patrick and each tier includes a digital download of the final book, expected to be completed May 2015.

There are several contribution tiers but only one remaining tier (#7 for $90) includes original hand-painted art as an incentive. The other two, which offered either a full page of art from the book or the art used in the title poster, are already gone. There re several other tiers that include the various incentive items.
